New to sewing? Not sure what it means to baste, pivot, or topstitch? Click on the image below to download a two page glossary of sewing terms. This is not a comprehensive list for garment sewing, but includes all of the relevant sewing terms that are included in my patterns.
This list is meant to help beginner sewists navigate sewing pattern terminology. I recommend printing both pages and slipping them into a page protector to keep near your sewing machine and supplies. You may also find this list helpful when teaching children to sew.
If you are unable to download the PDF file, see this blog post for a text only list of sewing terms and definitions.
Included terms: baste, bias, bias binding, cross-wise, directional fabric, finish seams, french seams, grain, hem, interfacing, pivot, raw edge, right sides together, seam allowance, seamline, selvedge, topstitch, wrong sides together
