2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour {Day 6}

It’s the final day of my 2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour! My patterns are still on sale—all 20% off—through next week. Today I have 2 new friends sharing the bags they made from my patterns. Both bags are quick and easy—perfect for gift giving!

Courtney blogs at The Wholesome Mama. Courtney and I are part of the same creative blogging group. She sews clothes for her children and for herself, among other things. Her recent outfit posts are my favorite! She perfectly combines practicality and style, putting together outfits that are great for moms of littles.

Courtney sewed a Fairport Pouch with a zipper closure to use as a make-up bag. It’s just the right size to toss into a bigger tote bag to keep the small things organized. Check out her post and her lovely photos!

Melissa, from Rebel & Malice, has an eclectic modern style. She’s a mom to 5, full of creative ideas, and a regular participant in blog tours. She has a great collection of kids clothing ideas and pattern reviews in her archives. You’ll find some neat kid project ideas on her tutorials page.

Melissa made a fun Fold Over Tote Bag from one of my Tote Bag upgrade tutorials. She used an old promotional tote bag to make this cute bag that she can actually use. Check out her post for more details and her review of the tutorial!

2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour {Day 5}

Today I have friends sharing a Retro Rucksack, a Highland Avenue House, and a Fairport Pouch for my 2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour! I hope you are enjoying the creativity and unique twists these ladies are adding to the patterns each day. So many great ideas!

Beth blogs at SewDIY. I discovered her Instagram feed a few months ago and I love her minimalist style. Beth has a pattern shop with a couple of great basic casual patterns for ladies. She works as an art director and graphic designer during the day, so her patterns look very professional! You’ll also want to browse her posts for some great make-it-yourself style ideas!

Beth is sharing a Retro Rucksack. The denim and natural webbing suits her minimal aesthetic perfectly. The topstitching details are fabulous! You’ll definitely want to see the whole bag—she even photographed the inside for you!

Next, Rebecca from Hugs Are Fun, is sharing her Highland Avenue House. Rebecca’s blog is focused on modern cross stitch and embroidery, but she also experiments with lots of other sewing and craft projects. There is a lot of crafty inspiration on her blog, plus she has a large selection of modern cross stitch patterns available in her shop.

Rebecca modified the Highland Avenue House windows by making them into pockets! Not only did she create a fun place to store the kids’ little friends, she also used up some scraps! Read more about her modifications on her blog…

Sara, from Made by Sara, participated in my Retro Rucksack blog tour last year. We’ve stayed in contact this year and I appreciate her positive and creative contributions to the sewing community. Sara lives in Spain and sometimes takes her photos at the local castle. (Seriously…how fun is that?) She mainly sews for her children and occasionally for herself. She is very involved in the online sewing community, regularly participates in blog tours, and also works with UpCraft Club.

Sara made a beautiful Fairport Pouch with with a snap tab and wrist strap. Her fabric choices are lovely, and her photos of the details are really helpful. Head over to her blog to see more of the pouch and look around at her other projects and pattern reviews!

It’s Day 3 of my 2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour. Don’t forget that all of my patterns are on sale this week. I’m excited to share these projects with you today!

Veronica blogs at SewVery. We met online while participating in the Perfect Pattern Parcel blog tours and are both part of the Betz White Sewing Collective this year. Veronica sews lots of bags (including my Water Bottle Tote and Retro Rucksack…), as well as clothes for her children and home projects. She has a fun modern style and has just released her first pattern—the Sunny Dress & Top—for little girls.

I am especially thankful that Veronica recommended me as a contributor to On The Go Bags last yearThe book is now available and we’ll both be posting more about it (plus giving away a copy!) this week!

Here’s a detail from Veronica’s Fairport Pouch. I love this knotted handle. Head over to her blog to see the whole bag and read more about the pattern!

Stephanie blogs at Swoodson Says. Stephanie invited me to join her Facebook group for creative bloggers last year. I can’t tell you how helpful it is to be part of a supportive group that happily shares information and resources. I’m thankful that Stephanie keeps the group positive and encouraging.

Swoodson Says is filled with creative sewing & craft ideas, with a focus on making things with and for the kids. Stephanie also has several creative play patterns that would make great gifts! Head over to her blog to see the playful modifications she made to the Highland Avenue House. It has a door that opens and closes, with cute little surprises for the kids to find!

Vicky used one of my free tutorials to make a quilted sketch book cover. She upcycled some old shirts to make this manly version. Such a great way to give the shirts new life! Vicky blogs at Vicky Myers Creations, where she shares her love of repurposing and recycling fabrics to make beautiful things. She also has an Etsy shop with cute bags and organizers made from repurposed fabrics. Visit Vicky’s blog to find out more about her sketchbook cover project.

Ajaire shares her projects and patterns at Call Ajaire. I think I first met Ajaire through our participation in the Perfect Pattern Parcel blog tours. You may have seen her popular monthly mash-up posts where sewing bloggers share ideas for mixing & combining patterns. She also has a pattern shop with some cute kids clothes, including her new Paneled Sunsuit pattern.

Ajaire made 2 Coastal Totes as gifts for her friends! If you’ve been intimidated by the rope handles on this pattern, you’ll definitely want to see how Ajaire made it work with regular strap webbing.

2nd Birthday Celebration & Blog Tour {Day 1}

Two years ago, I released my first sewing pattern. Today, I’m kicking off a week long blog tour with some of my blogging friends to celebrate! I’ll be posting each day this week with links to the projects they’ve made from my patterns and tutorials. We hope to share a week full of sewing inspiration for you. As part of the celebration, all of my patterns are on sale! And stick around later in the week for an extra post with a fun announcement and a giveaway!

When I sold my first pattern a couple of years ago, it felt like a big risk. There’s not a huge financial risk in starting an online business, but there is risk in sharing your ideas on the internet for all to see and comment on. It turned out to be one of the best risks I’ve ever taken. I can’t tell you how supportive the online sewing community has been. I’ve have loved getting to know the sewing bloggers and pattern designers and blog readers these 2 years. To the bloggers and designers, and those of you that read my blog regularly and buy my patterns—I appreciate each one of you!

My first two patterns, the Water Bottle Tote and the Retro Rucksack, have continued to be my bestselling patterns. With all that I’ve learned this year, it was time to update those 2 patterns. I’m happy to tell you that both have been completely updated, including reformatted pattern pages that are easier to assemble, new illustrations, clarification for tricky spots, and better zipper instructions (for the rucksack).

On to the blog tour…

Today Audrey from Skirt Fixation is sharing a Fairport Purse and Alicia from Felt with Love Designs is sharing a Retro Rucksack.

Audrey and her daughters at Skirt Fixation are very active in the online sewing community. She mostly sews for (and with) her daughters and loves Oliver + S patterns. Though we’ve never met, Audrey’s love of sewing and her big family make me sure that we could be fast friends! Be sure to check out her free skirt pattern and her e-book filled with refashioned skirts. Audrey made a Fairport Pouch with fun orange suede and a snap flap. She has a thorough review of the pattern and some bonus cyber Monday sale alerts you don’t want to miss!

Alicia writes at Felt With Love Designs, a blog filled with creative and fun crafts for kids. She has a tons of free tutorials for felt projects, ideas for educational games and busy bags, as well as a pattern shop. Alicia made the lining of her Retro Rucksack with some favorite “fun” fabric that she’s been saving for the right project. Check out her post for more details and helpful pictures demonstrating the strap options!

Ribbon Zipper Pouch

Do you follow Bonnie Christine at Going Home to Roost? Bonnie designs gorgeous patterns for fabric and ribbons (among other things!). This new line of ribbons was inspired by her love of nature, sunshine, gardens, flowers, and flying creatures. When I first found Bonnie’s blog and fabrics, I was immediately drawn to her happy patterns and fresh colors. Her work reflects her joy in creating beautiful things. I am excited to be part of this blog tour, sharing creative ideas for using this lovely ribbon!

The beautiful florals and joyful colors of these ribbons and fabrics reminded me of a friend’s vintage wedding. I thought the fabric and ribbons would make lovely little purses, perfect for handmade bridesmaid gifts. Can’t you just imagine a flower girl dressed in blush-colored butterfly fabric with matching ribbons in her hair and on her basket? So cute! It makes me want to help someone plan their wedding…

I used my Fairport Purse & Pouch pattern to make a zippered clutch with Bonnie’s Orchard Blossom fabric, white linen, and the Pink & Yellow Sweet Floral ribbon. I made the smaller size and added wrist strap. Embellishing a zipper pouch with ribbon is a quick and easy upgrade. Before you stitch the sides of the pouch together, just line up the ribbon below the zipper and topstitch along each edge. You could also try adding some ribbon to the wrist strap.

On Friday, Bethany at Bee Always Blooming, shared her pretty dream catcher decoration. The lace mixed with Bonnie’s coordinating fabrics and ribbons fit perfectly with the vintage wedding I was imagining. Next up on the blog tour is Amy at Cozy Reverie, so be sure to check back tomorrow to see how she has used Bonnie’s ribbons and fabric!

You can see all the Ribbon Blog Tour details and participants at Going Home to Roost!
